More than ten years ago, my husband and I have felt a small lump at the underside of my left breast. Yes, it was just a small lump, so I didn't do anything about it.
I never went to a doctor for medical check-up.
I was afraid of the findings and of the cost...Fear really is the number 1 reason why most women do not do anything to have their breasts examined by a doctor.
I never had a mammogram nor had a breast ultrasound.
According to some people, you can feel a little pain when the mammogram is done But a doctor told me that the pain is only felt for a very short span of time and since the onset of digital mammograms, the time span becomes shorter. Well, since I never had undergone this procedure, I can't attest to this.
It was just a small thing anyhow.... I thought it really was....
How did it start?
Well, since my mom had already undergone two surgeries to remove the cysts from her breasts, then, it's probably due to genetics or heredity that I also have that lump...
Or maybe it's because I really love to eat meat....
Or maybe it was due to the tip of the "underwire" of my brassiere that caused the formation of that small lump....
Whatever may be its cause, it did grow. It grew to a size almost one third of my left breast. When I had the courage to have my breast examined by ultrasound, the result showed that the mass is at the "11 o'clock to 3 o'clock" position of my breast.
I know, you now have some idea of what it really was and you're right. On March 24, 2010, the day I felt courageous enough to see a doctor, I had the lump biopsied and it was a malignant cyst. I was diagnosed with Stage 3B breast cancer.
And now my left breast is gone......
